U17 Colts reach NWYA Development Cup Final

Our Under 17 Colts who compete in the North West Youth Alliance Development League, a platform to enable players U16 & U17 to play in a testing league around the Northwest from Alsager to Fylde, Atherton to Chester..

Sunday saw them edging past AFC Fylde’s Colts thanks to a last-minute winner. Our third meeting with Fylde in the last five weeks was the closest of the three games between the teams this season, nothing like the reverse league game two weeks ago. In that game, Fylde were able to get revenge for the three points we picked up in early March at home. On this occasion though, in a semi-final with everything to play for, it remained tight in both halves. The 40mph winds didn’t help either team get into a rhythm, and it was a game of quick transitions but few clear chances created. As time ticked away the spectre of penalties loomed large, unless a moment of magic could be found. Fortunately for us it was found. A ball won in midfield broke to the feet of captain Charley Jarrald, who drove at the Fylde defence with the seconds ticking away. As it looked like there may have been a touch too much, he was able to feed the ball just to his right and to the feet of striker Vlad Shtyhlian, who advanced on the Fylde keeper and slotted home. Jubilant scenes for the Colts players, who now have a final to look forward to as the season draws to a close.

‘Our winner was testament to the group we have who never stop trying to play, no matter what the score, and they have a fantastic reward for their attitudes.’ said the Assistant Manager Michael O’Neill.

Final will take place on 28th April 2024 2pm at Irlam FC Ground.

U16 Titans bow out of MCC

Manager Mike Turners summary of the afternoon meeting of the U16 Titans v Manchester Corinthians at Manchester Health Academy:

“We controlled the first 20 mins of the game with some good passing and periods of possession, Avro did threaten us at times but George Raftery took his chance early on with a good through ball from Tom Higgins to make it 1-0.
Altrincham continued to dominate the possession stats and with a free kick outside the box led to Olly Fiedor putting us 2-0 up with a great free kick into the top corner.

Gaps in defending led to Avro pulling 1 back then again Alty the Altrincham defence misfiring and not 100% fit, a through ball not cleared cleanly earned Avro a penalty making it 2-2 at the break of HT

After HT the game was scrappy and no real flow to the game for both teams until Avro took the lead with 15 mins left. In retaliation, the Altrincham side broke down the right & Raftery brought the game level with a great right foot strike due to a through ball. 3-3.

Full Time was called & with the revisions of cup competitions spot kicks were to take place. Altrincham were up first but failed to find the back of the net giving Avro the advantage. Avro secured their next round place.

A disappointing result based on the overall performance, but we learn from the experience and wish Avro all the best in the competition.
